Projects

I have worked on many projects that focused on organization and utilizing tools to help get work done. Those have include one on one trainings with fellow teachers, pastors, and staff members, to department trainings, all the way up to school wide trainings of 700+ people. Below you’ll find examples that have been documented and/or are ok to release. A few projects not shown here, but I am particularly proud of are:

  • Teaching with Trello and Google Drive to get feedback from students
  • Podcasting is differentiation
  • Google Level 1 Primer
  • Using Google Tools to Drive Engagement
  • Project Based Learning
  • Writing OHVA’s Alma Mater (not really productivity related, but still cool in my book)

Creating a Grade Book Heat Map

The problem to be solved: When I was teaching high school music, our grade book system did an excellent job at showing us the most current grade, but it did a poor job of showing trends in a students grade over time. The answer was to download our grade book every week and then track manually, but the with the power of Apple Numbers and conditional formatting, I was able to create a beautiful, visual representation to see grades and trends for both individual students and the class as a whole. This set of videos was made to help other teachers build a similar system.

OHVA Music Appreciation Podcast

Problem to be solved: I wanted to present material for my music appreciation course in a way that would provide differentiation for students. This meant I could provide audio lessons that could be listened to while a student was at work, driving, or anything else that allowed them to play a podcast. It also allowed certain topics to be covered more in depth than would have been in a live session. I roped my colleague into producing two years of a podcast called “The Ohio Virtual Academy Music Appreciation Podcast” (it was an awful title we know). This then morphed into a later show called “All Things Music.”
